1. Sandy Beach

Located at the border of Eltador and North Glenmore, Sandy Beach is a popular outdoor destination for families. Here, you’ll find playgrounds, picnic sites, fire pits, washroom facilities, water fountains, and river access. You can also explore the many paths that run through the area, perfect for biking and running.

Sikome Lake is the only public lake in Calgary, located in Fish Creek Park. With sand-covered beaches, it’s the perfect spot for swimming, fishing, and observing wildlife. Note that there are no lifeguards on duty, and bags are checked upon entry. You’ll also find change rooms and washroom facilities, as well as staff selling snacks and water.

With more than 100 kilometers of paved and unpaved trails, Fish Creek Park is a popular destination for hiking, biking, picnicking, and observing wildlife. Heritage Park is Canada’s second-largest living history museum, spanning 127 acres on the banks of the Glenmore Reservoir. You can explore exhibits that span Western Canadian history from the 1860s to the 1950s, including historical buildings, antique automobiles, and horse-drawn vehicles. Staff dress up in historic costumes, and you can even ride an authentic steam train.

Located next to Heritage Park, the Glenmore Reservoir offers a variety of summer activities, including sailing lessons, boat rentals, and social/organized sporting events. There’s also a 16-kilometer pathway system on the water’s edge, perfect for biking and walking.
